Re: Update duration
One note on the RealityXP GNS units, they use the training software for the actual Garmin GNS units. While this is great for accuracy to the real units, it means that options are very limited to update the nav data for it. And really, the only option now it to update it using the actual database use...

Re: Exiting Class D airspace
Sounds like you are combining towered departures with non-towered departures. Towered VFR departures are simpler then you are trying to make them. You really just follow tower's instructions. 1. If not given any specific departure instructions, you turn on course when you reach a safe maneuvering al...

Re: Sky High 2 VFR on Top communication?
Updating your Nav data either with the FAA CIFP or with a data subscription with a service like Navigraph will update the VOR frequencies when they change. With the FAA working on the Minimum Operation Network, a lot of VORs have had their frequencies updated to account for the changes through the w...

Re: VFR - Callsign for initial tower contact
For what it's worth, to me it seems that IRL controllers will just use November 80% of the time. Like Kevin said, controllers can and will switch it up for any number of reasons and it's not really something a pilot has to worry about. You're also encountering something about flight training that ca...

Re: performance calculations
I would imagine jeppesen charts might have it, but I usually use the measure tool in Foreflight (press two fingers on the map screen and get a ruler) or measure the distance on google earth or some other maps application.

Re: If ATC Does Not Initiate Switch to Advisory
Once you’re ready for the switch, just request it. But NEVER just switch on your own or without acknowledgement from ATC. Thanks, Kevin. More specifically, instead of asking, can it be informing, ie, instead of "N123AB requests frequency change to advisory" can it be "N123AB is switc...

Re: IFR clearance at non-towered airports
A forum search would have provided the answer a little quicker I'm guessing
But 122.2 is used on PE to simulate a phone call to the overlying Center to obtain IFR clearances on the ground.

Re: What was wrong with descending?
With no crossing altitude your stuck at the MEA until either on the approach, or if you ask for lower and they can give it.
EDIT: once within 25 nm of rwy 14 you can actually descend to 8300 as per the chart MSA, but you cant get lower until you get to EED.

Re: What was wrong with descending?
The MEA until EED is 9000. You can not start descending to 5000 until A.) you ask for lower from ATC, the MVA may be lower than 9000. Or B.) you are established in the Hold-in-Lieu-of-Procedure turn or rather in this case, just the hold itself since its a direct entry. You can't descend lower becaus...

Re: San Diego VFR Corridor
Right based on the direction you are flying. Southbound, right of the dashed line would be west of it. Northbound, right would be east of the dashed line. The problem you had appears to be the altitude, as 5,500 puts you into the bravo airspace above the corridor. The corridor is a space of Class E ...
