Re: Approaches into KABQ with Outdated XPlane GPS data

Ryan, Thanks again. I appreciate your clarification about the distinction between enroute transition segments and Final Approach Segments wrt chart labels. Mostly when briefing approaches, I've thought, ok, "what's the big picture, what's required for the approach as a whole" (and in capit...

Re: Approaches into KABQ with Outdated XPlane GPS data

Ryan, "DME is not required for the final approach segment (which begins after the final approach fix and ends at the missed approach point). That's why it's listed in the notes and not the title. This is covered in the instrument procedures handbook which is free and worth reading." I'm no...

Re: Approaches into KABQ with Outdated XPlane GPS data

Thanks for the feedback. Ryank - One little quibble I have with your comment on the title listing all required equipment. If so, it would seem that this should be "ILS or LOC/DME RWY 8" since DME is required but only stipulated in the box...the point being there is some inconsistency in th...

Approaches into KABQ with Outdated XPlane GPS data

Greetings all, Encountered some curve balls today on an instrument fam flight into the new KABQ airspace that I'd like to get some feedback on - and which I think may be more broadly applicable: TLDR 1. I think default Xplane General Aviation pilots without updated ARINC data cycles loaded in their ...

Re: No "Connected to PilotEdge" voice message

Flyingdrill, I feel your pain. I have a DELL with various forms of Dell crapware installed and one of the most annoying audio issues I have is that the Dell audio manager applet inconsistently routes audio to headphones. If I plug in headphones after startup about HALF the time I get sound through t...

Re: Real World Coast to Coast now available

Excellent point about the ground speed being 220kts on approach, that does tend to decrease 1500 fpm slope quite a bit. I re-watched approach segment of the video, and I'm sure you had better flight visibility than the camera picked up, because it was pitch black for us. I'd have been pretty nervous...

Re: Real World Coast to Coast now available

Wow, what a useful series. Just finished watching the TAOS - Henderson leg. (Had to take a break to pass my instrument checkride :) I'd say that descent was pretty stressful to watch! Busy comms, very dark, and terrain. I'd warrant that the stress/fatigue of that had more to do with the taxi snafu t...

Re: Real World Coast to Coast now available

Excellent so far (I'm about halfway through). I appreciate the unexpected happening - an outstanding opportunity to learn something new -- like the "P-time" expiration after two hours on your departure. And I find the debrief/briefs to be particularly useful. I can certainly understand how...

Re: IFR Flightplan: Airport Direct vs IAF

Keith, Thanks. Yes, I guess I too was kind of obsessed with getting a clearance containing an IAF -- to not do so seemed to be cutting corners. But I think you are correct that in today's world, and how operations are routinely executed, that it isn't necessary or expected. (And as an aside, I would...

Re: IFR Flightplan: Airport Direct vs IAF

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Direct seems to be the way of the future, lost comms or no lost comms, so I won't worry about it VMC for sure, even though if it's hard imc, I probably won't be able to resist filing with the IAF to the ILS instead of just Direct.
