Re: Hold read back?
Absolutely. The list of things a controller might tell you at a given point in the flight is actually fairly short. In fact, when they make a call that's out of context for the phase of the flight, you brain struggles to process it! Case in point, I was transitioning over Teterboro (KTEB) with the ...

Re: Hold read back?
Thanks, that makes sense. It hurts my brain to not acknowledge, especially on the radio, but I get why it is the way it is. I think the pilot in the call I heard was caught off guard and thought he misheard the statement. He ended up giving the full read back and got corrected by the controller. You...

Hold read back?
I was listening to archives and came across one I hadn't heard before. The pilot picked up their IFR and was given the usual CRAFT information but at the end of the transmission the controller added "hold read back". The pilot read back anyway which obviously wasn't what the controller wan...

Yup. Added this to my rotation as well. Very cool to watch especially with all the camera angles.

That is very cool. I wish that was an option back when I was in school.

Re: Pickup Advisories
Fascinating stuff. Thanks! Thinking of the complexity of the whole operation nationally and on a broader level internationally is humbling. Always learning.

Re: Pickup Advisories
Ok I get it. That explains why some states have multiple centers while other centers have multiple states. Interesting. When I'm looking at the IFR map there are many different frequencies used by center across a given area. I assume this is in part due to the delegation you referred to. When callin...

Re: Pickup Advisories
Thanks guys. That brings up another question I keep meaning to ask someone. What exactly is "Center"? For example, the other positions have very specific functions. Ground manages ground traffic. Tower local air traffic. App/Dep traffic coming and going from a given air space. I don't thin...

Pickup Advisories
So I'm sitting at my desk stuck here at work and my mind wonders off to the myriad of possibilities of flight management. Up till now most of my focus has been around the socal area and the charts make it really easy to figure out who to call for advisories. Little red boxes all over the place on th...
