Re: X-Plane Scenery Gateway
So now that I've flown into KGCN (Grand Canyon National, not West Grand Canyon), I've noticed that it's overrun with trees. The airport does have Lego bricks, and it's in the Gateway, but for some reason the author didn't exclude trees from the runway or ramps. Maybe my version of X-Plane has more t...

Re: My new Archer in Portugal. How to get it home?
I arrived at Grand Canyon National a few minutes ago! I took 52 flights, totaling 7,374.6 nautical miles, earning about $53,000 over 15 real-life days of flying. I had no GPS, and I almost never used X-Plane's moving map, so navigation was all ded reckoning, VORs and (in Europe and the frozen north)...

Re: Equipment suffix
If filing VFR, I assume this info is not expected. But should I include it anyway? My Piper Archer has neither GPS nor autopilot, but it does have VOR and DME equipment. I usually write "no GPS, no autopilot" in my "comments," but perhaps I should just add /A? Also, my callsign i...

Re: My new Archer in Portugal. How to get it home?
Made it as far as Albuquerque tonight. What a setting for an airport! I really enjoyed the approach.
Tomorrow, Page Municipal, then the Grand Canyon!

Re: X-Plane Scenery Gateway
Yep, I find the taxi signs time-consuming and total guesswork. Still, as a user, I really appreciate when the airport designer has included lots of taxi signage. I've done some basic layout work for Grand Canyon west. Found a reference photo, started reworking the taxiways, etc. Even a simple little...

Re: My new Archer in Portugal. How to get it home?
Last night I had time only for one flight, so I traveled from Fort Worth to Lubbock, in west Texas. Tonight, if time permits, I have jobs leading me to Las Vegas (the one in New Mexico, not Nevada) and Albuquerque. From Albuquerque, I could conceivably fly empty into the Grand Canyon, where thunderi...

Re: Looking to Lease CRJ200/B200
I can manage the costs of owning a small single FBO; I rent a Caravan or such when I need to make cash a bit faster. (Or I just fly the heck out of my owned Bonanza.) I don't have big ambitions; I'd just like to buy one little FBO, preferably at a nice airport, and perhaps point it at 46CA. But I'm ...

Re: [Jan 29] Scenario-based VFR Flight Planning (Class B/C)
P.S. Any answer to the question posed during the session: Is it ok to make an early turn, before reaching the end of the runway? And does the answer differ for towered vs. non-towered airports? I'm late to the party, but I recently finished watching this Workshop and had the same question. Reading ...

Re: Pilot Introductions
Hey guys, I've been here a couple weeks, and I realize I haven't introduced myself here. I have no real-world pilot training; the closest I've come is sitting in the copilot's seat in a Bonanza and C172 here and there. My dad was a radar operator for the RAF after World War II, and while he and I oc...
