Re: First flight, and totally lost my nerve and ran.

I can still get a bit of fear for the radio calls. It`s a process to get comfortable with it. Small steps is the cue, start with easy VFR flights, the CAT ratings is great, read all the information and plan your flight well. Get confident on traffic patterns, as you will often have to enter right do...

Re: Newbie question on expanding use of PE

Pattern work is really difficult in the sim, I have a hat switch on my yoke allowing me to quickly glance to the right or left side. I also use the compass to help me. I am not a real world pilot, but have heard some say that pattern work is Harder in the sim than in the real world. The way I found ...

On course vs. Own navigation

Quick question: did a VFR flight from SFO to SAC with flight following. On departure I was on rwy heading and a assigned altitude. After contacting deeeparture, I got a new altitude and "on course approved". So, what is the difference between that and "own navigation"?

Re: SEATL5 Departure

I find the wording interesting. "fly heading xxx AND SEA R-xxx", the "and" maybe has an deeper meaning then I understand or I may be over thinking this. Not knowing better I would fly it as @overload suggests. Anyone who can clarify the "and"?

Re: Loss of avionics

Not sure about the official PE stand on this, but know people simulate failures. Everything from vacuum failures to radio loss and engine outs. As long as you follow the correct procedures I think you`ll be OK.
