Re: NEMA GPS device for IPAD
I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but I got an email from Flying Magazine today which mentioned this: http://www.flyingmag.com/news/cygnus-new-product-lets-you-use-your-ipad-flight-simulation?cmpid=enews072612&spPodID=030&spMailingID=5455153&spUs...

Re: Course Reversal on a SID
Right, that's not what I meant. Outside of a shortcut they wouldn't tell you which way to turn.

Re: Course Reversal on a SID
It is a strange departure, but ATC wouldn't give you an instruction as it's a pilot nav departure. Since it doesn't specify which way to turn, I assume the choice is yours, but could be wrong.

Re: MAFPI abbreviation on VOR/DME or GPS-B for AVX
Learn something new every day. I've seen these before, SEPDY comes to mind (the point where you start the left turn on the PORTE3 from the 1's) but never knew they had a name. Of course now that I look, that one isn't on the FAA chart but is on the Jeppesen. Go figure..

Re: Aircraft names
The 'identifier' for the Diamond DA20 is actually 'DV20', since the 'DA20' is a Dassault Falcon. The only reason I know this is that I did my primary training in the DA20 and I quickly learned the difference between the model name and the ATC identifier for the aircraft. Re: Aircraft ICAO Code Question
FYI for everyone, I discovered tonight that ICAO changed their site around ('cause ICAO loves to change things...) Here's the new page for aircraft codes (works the same as the old page):

Re: Correct ICAO aircraft codes
There's an easier to search version of the ICAO page as well:
http://www.icao.int/anb/ais/8643/
It allows for the * as a wildcard as well, for example typing bonanza will display only a few models, but *bonanza* will include more.
