Re: INSTRUMENT RATED!!
Congrats! I'm an IR student as well. Passed my written recently and have started increasing the frequency of flying with my CFII. I find myself "not knowing what to do next" at times to stay ahead of the plane/ATC, so I'm hoping that practicing with PE will help me anticipate what ATC will...

A "Thanks" to ATC last night...
Real pilot, working on my IR, and signed on to a busy area last night. Many times I've flown INTO a number of class charlie airports, did a touch-and-go, and then departed back to my quiet class G home drone. I had never DEPARTED from a class charlie though. Last night, I called GROUND at John Wayne...

And I stand corrected, the flight WAS logged so all was not lost. I must have not waited the ten minutes last night before checking.
Great network!

No worries at all Keith. Love the network and I'm trying to improve so I don't give your ATC crew heartburn. Since I'm working on my IR in the RW, PE is a great resource.

Note to self - do NOT hit PTT to turn field lights on...
Okay, newbie mistake. I decided to fly for a CAT rating last night. After filing the flight plan, about 20 minutes in flight, yada yada yada, I decide it would be easier to see the airport if the lights were on since it was around dusk. Hit the PTT button seven times should activate the lights. On a...

Re: Newbie question on expanding use of PE
Thanks KL - yes, that's helpful. I set up some quickview keys in X-Plane that helps a bit too, and switched to a low-wing which is what I normally fly in the real world - both of which helped some. I also use the heading bug as a runway reference that helps with turns in the pattern. I'm guessing I ...

Newbie question on expanding use of PE
120ish hour VFR pilot here, slowly working on my IR stuff and building my hood time in the real world. I've flown five or six real-world approaches into Johnstown PA, and have practiced some holding patterns but that's about it. I've ventured out to the first flight on PE a number of times (L52 to S...

Re: PE newbie question on WHEN to login to network
No benefit at all Kyle, but I did this once last night after having realized that I had departed and not yet joined the PE network. I joined while in the air, made my ATC call and squawked an Ident, but was hoping that I hadn't really messed with the ATC crew or others by joining in the air. There d...

PE newbie question on WHEN to login to network
Quick clarification for a newbie who's done about three PE flights so far. As a RW private pilot, I usually dial up flight following shortly after takeoff with the appropriate approach, and they hand me off to various places as I get to my final destination, pass me off to tower if I'm landing at a ...

Re: Kudos to my controllers last night!
XPlane in general can be a little clunky when starting out, here is a good vid to get you properly setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMSoOlfIdVA Thanks SB. I think that's one I found this morning along with some other things, so maybe tonight I'll get some SIM time. As my friend/CFI usually sa...
