Wednesday Night Flight -- Thanks

Just wanted to give a thanks to Wednesday night's controller (s), I think I just dealt with one of you. KONT to KBFL -- IFR, I appreciated the not quite what I filed clearance and the amended clearance once airborne. I really am here to deal with my ability to hear, interpret and readback correctly ...

Re: Use of Landing Lights

Closed traffic, you want to be as visible as possible, light yourself up like a Christmas Tree. In daytime, I turn my wingtip wig-wags and strobes off after 3000ft or so, but keep my landing light on until cruise. If a short flight, will just leave the landing light on the whole time. I have an LED...

Re: why not ZOA?

Don't know how it will show up in the records for tonight N01SW IFR KSAC to KSJC. Was just making the turn for the ILS 30L approach and started a descent when my FSX (yeah, I know switch to X-Plane :o ) went dirty side up and blew me out of the water. Controllers, thanks for a great job, and for off...

Re: why not ZOA?

A few months ago, we were being peppered with questions about when ZOA (norcal) would be opened up. We did everything we could and managed to get it launched with part-time support a little while ago. It's pretty clear, however, that not many people are flying there when it's open. I'm just curious...

Re: Coverage area update: Oakland ARTCC, Mar 9

Wanted to thank you again for opening up this part of California on the weekends. Finally had a chance to fly my home turf even if only for a short sprint tonight. From KLHM to KSAC, as much to test out my "more" complete setup with my Saitek yoke (with push to talk button working) as to f...

Re: [Apr 7 2-5p PDT] PE EVENT: Sheltered Existence

The real world San Carlos to Sonoma trip through that Bravo airspace is always fun. Especially when they have you cross the airport rather than keeping it off the right wing 8-) I've spent a lot of time in and out of the Sonona Jet Center too, always great people there. I keep meaning to do that She...

Sorry I wasn't able to play last night, but I am very glad that ZOA has opened and am looking forward to more NORCAL flight time soon :)

Re: Localizer Approaches

Just a thought, as an IFR pilot in real life (GA, not big guys). I will try and get down as quickly as I can on a VOR or Localizer approach, however my experience in the system has been that some controllers will warn you about your altitude. They worry about that CFIT, and have started to expect th...

Re: Whiteman (KWHP) IFR Departure Question

Thanks Keith, You've now described why I got confused. Plus I had set my OBS correctly for the intercept, though it felt like it was taking a long time to get there. Then thought I'd mis-set it and changed it and had to change back. Much better to make such mistakes in the virtual world (FWIW, I don...
