KLAX V3 references
Finally at the 99% completion of the visual references for the LAX VFR transition. Included in the file is the Vincent Thomas bridge, the Queen Mary and Hollywood Park racetrack. In the future I'll add a few other things and night textures, but these are good enough for the Hollywood Park Route and ...
V3 Notes
So I did my V3 over the weekend. Took me back to my private pilot days. As we know, there are several visual references that are part of the VFR routes through the LA Bravo. As I began the routes, I immediately noted that I need to build these things, so I think I'll do that, and upload to x-plane.o...

Re: Check Weather
One thing to note, is that it's pretty much impossible to know if a pilot is using real weather or not, unless it's noted in the remakrs/advised on frequency/etc. For all we know, a pilot might be using storm-ridden nighttime conditions, during a VMC daytime in real life. You get the idea :) True, ...

Check Weather
I had an awesome flight today, French Valley to North Las Vegas (F70-KVGT). I filed HDF.V283.BLD.LAPIN. I chose this route to keep me west of the WX coming from the northeast. The controller changed my route to HDF HEC V8 GFS V538 LAS. This routing effectively puts me right into the rain, in a Piper...

Re: Thought's on simulated emergencies etc.
Flew from San Diego Brown field to Victorville in a mooney in x-plane 9.72.(12Nov11) Was looking forward to the arc, 8-) but twice hit icing above 10,000. :| The second time resulted in rolling inverted and 7 seconds of tumbling outta altitude. :? Then my indicated airspeed dropped to zero for sever...

Re: Things Discovered
Never been a fan of autopilot. Seems like too many pilots let the simulator fly itself. I'd rather spend the time preacticing maintaining heading and speed within checkride limits while multitasking. Spend 7 hours in the seat and you'll see the beni's of autopilot. It's not there to replace skills,...

Re: Things Discovered
Keith, usually I'll file what I think would be a good practice flight. If I'm flying a GA aircraft, it's probably because I wanna enjoy a cigar and an ale along the route ( it's the only place I can have a drink & cigar while flying :D ) If I want to really train, I'll pick something high-speed ...

So I flew twice today (Sat 15Oct11). First flight was kingair 350, KSAN-KONT. I filed BRDR5.BROWS.JLI.SETER2. (I use DUAT WX for planning). I was cleared Hdg 275, radar vectors V186, Dir TANNR, Dir HDF, Dir Petis, Dir. On Socal contact I was given direct ROBNN. The mad scramble to reprogram the GPS ...

Question: I flew this afternoon, Mooney M20T from Blythe to Hemet-Ryan. At the fix HEMET, I called LA for descent but no response. I made several attempts. I finished my route and as I turned onto the IAF, LA comes up. Turns out, they been tryin to hail me also. I checked to make sure I wasn't logge...
