Re: Frequently Asked Questions Suggestion Thread

Great idea, Pieces. I apologize if this is slightly on a tangent, and I don't mean to disrupt your discussion, but but here's another, follow-up suggestion. (I haven't personally had a lot of time to participate in this community, but...) I think I community-managed wiki would be ideal for organizin...

Re: At least it wasn't Keith this time.

I didn't know you could get a birdstrike in x-plane. I thought the bird option was just eye candy -- mostly because it's a "rendering option".

Re: Kickstarter for an "affordable" Control Loading Yoke

I too was hoping for a lower retail. Something like $300-500, comparable to a high end force feedback driving sim wheel. I'd personally rather spend $800+ on r/w lessons. If you get in on the kickstarter (6 hours to go), it's only $600 CAD... or $563 USD... which is just slightly higher than the ra...

Re: Which X-Plane 10 add-ons should I get for my vanilla XP1

Welcome! To get ATIS on COM2, just dial the frequency on that radio and hit the COM2 switch on the audio panel while you're already monitoring COM1. I believe that's something you can only do on X-Plane. Some planes will require that you assign a key, or button/switch if you have a yoke or switch p...

Re: Setting the altimeter in X-plane

Unfortunately not a software solution, but... I use saitek radio panels which makes it really easy to adjust comms/nav/altimeter/xpdr/etc. -- by physical manipulation and not having to use the mouse. The current setting is shown clearly on an led display. Requires the xsaitekpanels plugin, which is ...

Re: [Sep 29, Sun] PilotEdge Birthday Bash!

That was a lot of fun! Thanks to all of the controllers for their hard work! I seriously don't know how they do it... great job! Other than a crash-to-desktop on approach to KBFL, everything went pretty well (many thanks to Bakersfield Approach for understanding and continuing my same flight plan in...

Re: Changing simulation speed... ever appropriate?

Boredom? Are you kidding me? I have a hard enough time keeping ahead of the airplane. Suggestions: - Fly shorter flights. For example, limit your trips to no more than 40-50 miles in a 100 kt aircraft. - Use less sophisticated equipment. Instead of GPS navigation, use VOR/ADF. Don't use DME. - Fly a...

Re: Considering Track IR

Late reply, but here goes... Overpriced, fragile piece of crap plastic (trackclip pro), breaks easily. But... totally worth it if you can afford it. I would not fly without it. Disclaimer: I only fly VFR, and only have a single monitor. I also use saitek panels for manipulating radio controls and sw...

Re: X-Plane = Loves SSD

Ok I timed and profiled the initial loading and here's what I get. Initial load time: 1m 00s - first 50s at 25% cpu (equivalent to 1 of 4 cores; this stage must be single-threaded) - final 10s at 100% cpu (this is the "asynchronous load" stage; appears to be threaded out to utilize all cor...
