Re: Two Newbie Questions

Well, this has been a very interesting learning experience. I reviewed the audio and if anyone cares to listen its the 12/16 1600 ZLA Radar. I'm Skyhawk 27VB. I contact Santa Barbara clearance delivery at 12:10. The first step happens at 15:34 when I'm making contact with the SB departure controller...

Two Newbie Questions

First Question: Flying a Cessna 172 VFR southeast from Santa Barbara to Camarillo with flight following. When I'm about two or three miles northwest of the Oxnard Delta airspace at 1,500 feet, the Point Mugu Controller terminated radar services and told me to contact the Camarillo tower. Since I onl...

Announce Altitude Change VFR w/FF?

I've heard people flying VFR with flight following report an altitude change such as "leaving 8,500 for 3,500". Let's assume they have been directed to maintain appropriate VFR altitudes and they have not been directed to fly any particular altitude or to report altitude changes. Are such ...

Re: Entering Class C Airspace with Flight Following

Hi Scott, Yes, I completed the CAT-08 rating. The CAT ratings have been super helpful and have pushed me out my comfort zone into learning new stuff. As I mentioned above, what threw me was the lack of an approach controller. I had been in communication with NorCal Departure, but had not been hande...

Re: Entering Class C Airspace with Flight Following

What confused me was that I wasn't handed off to an approach controller, but since the two airports are not very far apart maybe the controller I contacted on departure from City1 covered the area all the way to City2? Both airports were covered by NorCal Approach/Departure.

Entering Class C Airspace with Flight Following

Just learning to use flight following so apologies if this is a dumb question: Suppose I'm flying from City1 Airport to City2 Airport. Both are Class C airports located about 50 nm apart in Northern California. I request flight following on the ground at City1 and after departing City1 I make contac...

Re: Type of Approach?

Thanks Keith! That makes sense. I will not make that mistake again. To the controller's credit after I expressed some confusion he went ahead with VFR pattern entry instructions. Really enjoying PilotEdge though I get a little nervous on most flights. I've been following the VFR Communications manua...

Type of Approach?

I am sorry to ask such a dumb question, but I’m new at this. I have been flying VFR in a C172 w/o flight following and doing good with departing and landing at Class D airports. Today I did my first landing at a Class C airport and all was going well until the approach controller asked what type of ...
