Been there. I usually slow down and try to follow a predictable pattern.
What if you turn final and no clearance yet? go around if the tower is not responsive I presume.

So that why ATC was being such a b*tch!

Congrats on 2 years. Ive been with you less than 2 weeks but I feel I will stay for the next two years at least!
I could not join because of family (always in the way ) but Im sure it was great.
