Re: Gaming Desktop for X-plane 10

A video card with 2GB of VRAM is going to limit the rendering settings and level of detail you can set - note that at the bottom of my settings page I'm hitting ~2.8GB of VRAM with those settings and that's pretty much average for me. My system is: i7-4790K w/ CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO Gigabyte Z97...

Re: Task-Saturated Penguin FBO network, changed hub to 46CA

RWY 10 has one hell of an approach with that hill 2500' off the end of it. I tried it both steep and a quick base to final tonight bouncing my poor 206 (rental) pretty hard both times and _definitely_ cooked the brakes. It's a fun little field though!

Re: Gaming Desktop for X-plane 10

The specs on that system (aside from that PSU, seriously) are more than sufficient to have a beautiful X-plane experience and if I remember tonight I'll try and get a screen of my actual rendering settings and maybe a few screens for reference. Please do, as I am clearly missing the ball somewhere ...

Re: Gaming Desktop for X-plane 10

Cheers for all your help :) Do you know what power supply I should get to make sure everything runs smoothly? I would rather buy a pre-built comp instead of having to build one. :D I searched for the 500w psu and it looks like a fan, type thing. Also, all the gaming comps on ebuyer seem to have 500...

Re: Gaming Desktop for X-plane 10

There are also some good thoughts on X-Plane performance on their developer blog , I read up on this stuff pretty extensively as I was planning my build and while a lot of it is from a few years ago but is still good insight in to how the rendering engine works and how settings and different hardwar...

Re: Gaming Desktop for X-plane 10

I have a very similar setup although I'm using a 4790K. I run everything damn near max with lots of scenery for the PE coverage area and the HDMesh v3 - I consistently get 40~45 FPS (or higher depending on the aircraft model) and am usually only consuming 2.7 GB of VRAM. The only reason I don't cran...

Re: Alphabet Challenge - Leg 1 - Apple Valley to Bakersfield

I was pretty excited all day to get started on the alphabet challenge tonight but wasn't sure if the weather was going to hold up. Since I'm not 'IFR Rated' on PE (I haven't done any of the IFR ratings, odd personal rule) I'm limiting myself to VFR only and the big block of IFR rules that was stuck ...

Re: [Jan 16, 1815 PST] L90-AVX with many stops

Are you running HDR on or off? Are they stock lighting settings or have you modified them in xplane? That's the Real Terra Haze plugin I think. Been playing around with it and haven't quite got the lighting effects dialed in - it adds a bloom that looks great on ground lighting from the sky but not...

Re: [Jan 16, 1815 PST] L90-AVX with many stops

This was a blast despite my poor old C172 being about the slowest in the pack! A fun twist in the future could be doing some Top Gear style challenges/races... Anyways, here is a couple of screen grabs I took at the start and the finish, thanks again for putting this together Keith! pe_fly_in_start....
