Re: CAT 10 ATC request confusion

Okay, thanks - I had no idea that was the case with LA Tower. I didn't see anything related to that in the CAT 10 info, and if it's indicated on the VFR and / or LA TAC charts I've missed it apparently.

Thank you very much for that clarification.

CAT 10 ATC request confusion

So, last night I made my first attempt at the CAT 10, having spent a day or so preparing. And, regardless of the preparation, It was a complete mess. I thought I was all set, but ended up juggling too many things all at once and got way behind the airplane. However, one thing really confused me. As ...

CAT Questions on flight following / departures

I failed my first attempt at the CAT 8 because I busted a restriction I was given without realizing it - due primarily to a misunderstanding of the instruction and exactly what I was supposed to do. Clearance gave me instructions I expected - with an instruction to " ... maintain VFR at or belo...

Re: Question on steep descents into airspace

It's 11nm from the edge of the Class C to EMT. That was plenty of room to descend. I completely agree - with that much room there shouldn't be an issue. However, I didn't start my descent until I'd reached the outer edge of the class D of El Monte... which only gave me 4 miles to the airport. More ...

Question on steep descents into airspace

I just completed the CAT 7, and my flight through it made me consider other pilots methods and opinions on descending into an airport from an altitude that's fairly high when only a short distance from it. I was cleared through Ontario class C, flying at 4500. It was pretty busy, so I waited for the...

Re: How (or if) to say no

That's a good question - I seem to recall seeing that myself and, as a result, just assumed it was the case. That being said, you can still use the COMM 2 radios for ATIS even if it is the case. That's what I primarily use COMM 2 for, I can dial in my departure and destination airport ATIS freqs in ...

Re: Class C question on VFR charts

Okay, thanks - that's what I thought. And that's a good idea - I might do that for this flight for the additional radio practice.

Class C question on VFR charts

I'm planning a flight from Mojave to San Bernadino, to prepare for my CAT 7. I plan to fly due south from Mojave until I catch the 140 radial of the Palmdale VOR (avoiding the R-2515 restricted airspace), and then follow the V-137 airway until I hit the 150 radial of the Victorville VOR and turn dir...

Re: Never again on PE - share your mistakes

I was flying from Bakersfield to Mojave. I had everything all set to go - I fly using an Oculus, so I use an open Notepad app, import it into FlyInside, and have all the navigation points, radio and VOR channels, and all that included for my flight prep along with airport diagrams for both Bakersfie...
