ATIS Directs You to Get FF Prior to Arrival, Legal Requirem?

Hi All, At Addison airport, KADS, near my home in McKinney (KTKI) the ATIS informs pilots to contact regional approach inbound for landing. The implication is that one "needs" to get Flight Following, presumably to facilitate sequencing into KADS which is a fairly busy airport in a fairly ...

Re: Real World Class B Question

Asad, It may be splitting hairs, but just because you are cleared into the Bravo, doesn't mean you have to actually enter it. You could "roger up that clearance" and then inform Regional Approach that you are descending to 2800 crossing Denton's Delta. That keeps you out of the Bravo overh...

Re: ILS or LOC RW XX

Great thread, thanks for sharing. I totally understand how this could gnaw at you even if some think, "oh what's the big deal" :)

Re: Legal Localizers and Such

Very interesting, thanks for sharing that Ray. It's kinda funny the mishmash of technologies we have now - partially digitial partially analog etc. I had some instrument training in the 90s pre GPS and then a loong break. So I've been trying to backfill my knowledge on the GPS procedures with a mind...

Standby FREQ in GNS430 Changes Itself...

Hi all Running XP 10.35. I have recently experienced what I think may be a bug -- the standby comms frequency in the default 172 is changing itself. This occurs after tuning via mouse click on the GNS 430 buttons, then flip flop, then the standby freq is off by 1 or two major digits. It has happened...

Re: Carenado BE36 - COM1 Radio Flip Issue Using a Keyboard K

Hi guys, I saw this thread earlier and filed a mental note. I don't know if this is related or not, but I have been flying the default 172, tuning the radios via mouse click on the GNS430. Using 10.35 XP, I have started having weird anomalies where the standby frequency is changing itself (always th...

Re: Legal Localizers and Such

Ryan Great. Simple is good. I like simple. I think i understand now what the FAA is saying with that AC. You can use gps to identify the fixes/intersections but can't use the magenta line (GPS) to legally steer you back on course. Peter Thank you for the clarification. I misunderstood "longitud...

Re: Legal Localizers and Such

Peter, I'm with Ryan here also - I don't understand the difference between a "lateral" and a "longitudinal" fix here. ZEGAX and DOBRA would seem to be defined in 3D (they have altitudes associated) just as Hasby is, they just aren't on the Final Approach Segment ?? (It seems the ...

Legal Localizers and Such

Pilots, I will confess that heretofore in many PE Instrument approaches I flew in GPS equipped aircraft I used the GPS to fly the approach while also using the VOR heads. To some, including (the old) me, that would seem like a no brainer - surely the GPS is more accurate. But apparently it isn't so ...

Re: Alphabet Challenge Leg 35 KL88 - KL90

Flying Drill, Congratulations on finishing off the Alphabet Challenge and fending off the X-Plane Gremlins! I had something weird occur recently with my CH yoke - just as you described, between one flight and the next, it became completely uncalibrated. XP 10.35 seems to have introduced some quirks ...
