Awesome story and great pics. Melbourne FL Class D (KLMB) also will not coord flight following on the ground. I fly out of there. You have to pick it up in the air with Orlando Approach. As zerofay32 said, many of the east FL coast Class Deltas are just too busy with flight training and other traffic.
