Re: Can you get from Barstow to Lone Pine in a C172?
You are the guru. That is crazy. I just drew it, you flew it. Especially like the dog legs betwixt Palmdale and Burbank. Though Hargrove would chide you for coming too close to R-2524 (he's overly cautious in his video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApzUapJII6M . He'd rather fly a single windmill ov...

Re: Can you get from Barstow to Lone Pine in a C172?
Right! I also wondered about going from KSNA. You've got the Class C's at KSNA and KONT (easy after watching your V2 video), and then if you're afraid of heights you have to wind your way up through the Cajon pass. So much for "as the crow flies," or as a friend used to say "time to s...

Can you get from Barstow to Lone Pine in a C172?
Watching the first workshop video from Keith on charts and airspace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1YEKGW0ve8 was enlightening, to say the least. Learning to fly in the Midwest, you can fly for hours and not tangle with a MOA, Restricted, or even a Class C, let alone a Class B west of O'hare. As ta...

Question about flight following frequency change
In V-2: SNA to ONT in the Baron video, Keith switched from tower to Departure in a section of the video that must have been edited out. I was watching it a second time to try and see when it is appropriate to contact Departure after take off. 1. Does tower request you to make the change and Departur...

Re: Questions about entering a leaving a pattern
Thanks Pieces, Last Sunday on PE I was at towered Riverside and took off to the west but ultimately headed east. I was given left pattern but got slapped for departing before flying back over the field from the downwind before I had reached the opposite end of the runway. So, yes, 4-3-3, but not too...

Questions about entering a leaving a pattern
Et al, I'm probably waaaaay over thinking this, but just trying to get it all right. "4-3-3. Traffic Patterns" of the AIM doesn't get as particular as I'd like granular and diagrams only the more obvious methods. I'm curious about arriving from the opposite side of an active pattern, and t...

Re: Workshop 3* "Companion" Videos
Mark, The Palomar tower approved a frequency change for you at the 40:30 mark in the KCRQ-KTOA video. How did he know you wanted the change? It's been my experience as a pilot both in the air and here on PE, that a tower controller will basically just ignore you as you fly out of the Delta. I can un...

Re: What do controllers see?
Keith just posted this sweet video of him at the scope dealing with 2 pros in the pattern at Santa Barbara. Fun to hear his under-the-breath comments and see just how busy he can get. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2705. In YouTube dial up HD and go full screen.
