Re: Class D airport in class E airspace
You're over thinking it a bit. Class E is Class E no matter where the floor of the airspace is. On the sectional chart, it shows two areas that change where Class E airspace starts. Normally, it starts @ 1200'agl. The area inside the magenta shaded circle (~23NM radius from CSP) on the sectional aro...

Re: Flight following to an uncontrolled airport
Yes. ATC will be looking to drop you like a hot potato as soon as you call the airport in sight. In reality, airports are a lot easier to see then in the sim. On a "severe clear" day/night one can see the airport 30 or more miles out. On those days I will wait to call the field in sight so...

Re: CAT-1/CAT-2: Airport Error/Utility of Flight Simulation
LORAN is a poor example for this argument as it was never fully adopted before promptly becoming obsolete when the military released the GPS signal. Basic navigation skills (Pilotage and Radio navigation) are skills that all pilots should keep up on. While the VOR network is being thinned out in the...

Re: Viewing other nearby traffic
I'm not sure, but I think there is an "AI traffic" setting in X-plane that needs to be set to a number greater than 0 in order for PE to inject traffic into the sim. I believe most people just set it to 1.
Maybe check for this?

Re: Viewing other nearby traffic
Also, was any of the traffic on the radio actually at the same airport? All traffic on any Ground and Tower frequencies will be heard due to repeaters PE has set up to help prevent blocks/increase radio traffic.

To your comment on getting Flight Following on the ground. Not every Class Delta airport can/will provide this especially if it is non-radar. I don't think your instructor would have not known how to request flight following from ground. I have flown a good bit down there for work and have made an o...

Re: Cat and I Ratings in Western
There are no equivalent ratings for the WUS. If a WUS only sub wanted to do them, they can switch to a ZLA sub (they are the same price) on the next billing cycle. All they need to do is contact someone at PE to handle the switch. I think they can even work with you if you have an annual sub and no ...

Re: On IFR—When to change altimeter setting
4)When picking up the ASOS/AWOS.
A .4 or .5 change is pretty large and would be an indicator of other potential issues (like flying into a Hurricane ).

Are you sure they are not saying "report IFR cancellation or the missed"?
