Re: CPDLC coming to the US
We've been testing a similar system at MEM called DTAP. Here's a link to a PDF file with some details. https://www.thalesgroup.com/sites/default/files/asset/document/faa_data_comm_trial_automation_platform_aug2015.pdf It's worked very well, and the software is being rolled into our TDLS in the comin...

I'm not sure I see much wrong with his procedure. He reads it clearly and slowly, which is nice, and expects a full and complete readback of the essential information. The only thing I have an issue with (and a very small issue, at that) is his insistence on hearing expected altitudes. ie... "E...

Re: Question about the V-2
Class D in RW I have not found an airport yet that will set it up for you on the ground. To the point I no longer ask and just get it in the air. Come to KOLV, where flight following is given to every flight that asks for it! Plus, I've never heard the word "unable" from the Memphis TRACO...

NASA ASRS #425 - Speed
For those not familiar, the ASRS (Aviation Safety Reporting System) program: Collects, analyzes, and responds to voluntarily submitted aviation safety incident reports in order to lessen the likelihood of aviation accidents. In the June edition (Issue 425), ASRS Callback focuses on speed issues duri...

Controllers!
My funniest interaction with a controller ever... I'm in the TRACON doing preventative maintenance on an emergency transceiver... It's almost pitch black in there, so I quietly ask him if I can turn up the light above his position a little. He finds a break in his transmissions, turns his head sligh...

Re: RW Question-Train in 152 or 172?
Definitely the 152 for primary flight training. After you get your private ticket, you'll probably want to carry friends and family. Transitioning to the 172 won't take long at all!
You'll save a boatload (planeload?) of money by training in the 152!

Re: What's your sign?
I own a Cessna 206 and a Cherokee 180 that are based at 46CA. On a good week, they get rented once or twice for short hops. But I've got all the v$ that I need, so leave them there to expand the rental options. I generally fly with the N-number whatever aircraft I rent. Since I mostly fly my own pla...
