Re: SR22 IFR Training
Don't waste your time with fs2004. Upgrade to xplane or prepared and be done with it. I haven't seen avidyne modeled but I've been very pleased with carenados aircraft including one with dual GNS430 and aspen pfd that mirrors the piper arrow i flying the real world. Never mind that it's in a bonanza...

IFR Flightplan: Airport Direct vs IAF
After 20+ years, and a PE I-11 rating :), I figured it was time to finish my instrument rating. That said... TLDR: Is it now common/appropriate/acceptable to file airport to airport direct without listing a terminating IAF from which an approach may be commenced at the destination? I was taught long...

This. Times a million.Keith Smith wrote: ATC is not what keeps you alive when you're flying IFR, it's the knowledge of how to fly in IMC, how to stay clear of terrain, and how to shoot an approach that counts.

Re: Interesting Class D Airspace in Oregon
This is absolutely crazy making! Shelf-ed Class Delta airspace with odd radial quadrants. No thanks. KADS is odd enough for me with a bifurcated top - but at least the airspace is from the surface with no weird cutouts. And "satelite" airpark is handled consistently too - by contacting KAD...

Re: So I just got my Private Pilot Certificate...
Hey Asad Congratulations. I remember our posts about Flight Following in Dfw. And have two near midair a in close succession in on two sequential flights let me now strongly urge flight following EVERY time from regional approach - especially if you are flying out of air park! PE has helped me treme...

Re: RW Question-Train in 152 or 172?
Steve Like everyone is saying the 152 (technically that's a 150 but no biggie) is the way to go as long as weight and balance work out for you. When I trained in a 152 I weighed I weighed 152. Nowadays I'm looking for a c195 :). Remember useful load is you + gas. :) Good rates. I am paying 100/hr we...

Re: Real World Class B Question
No joke Asad! Talk about a terrible time to have just paid to join a North Texas flying club! I knew last Monday was possible to be the only decent flying day for the month! Glad I was able to sneak in a (50.3NM) cross country to Decatur and back. I'll be lucky to get a second flight in before the e...

Re: ATIS Directs You to Get FF Prior to Arrival, Legal Requi
Thanks again. I will of course now have to go to KADS at my earliest opportunity now that I fully grok every aspect of its airspace and the little known Fars which make it so.

Re: ATIS Directs You to Get FF Prior to Arrival, Legal Requi
Peter. Always am I amaZed by your ability to find key regulatory references. Wow. I think we are in agreement that air spaces can overlap but they cannot be both things at one time. In your example only when one airspace expires does the other exist - much as ktki delta reverts to E when the tower c...

Re: ATIS Directs You to Get FF Prior to Arrival, Legal Requi
Peter, 1. That's an interesting reference you site re: overlapping airspace. I wonder if it doesn't better apply to things such as the 200 KT limitation in or under a Bravo. That more restrictive requirement would cascade down onto the E and D airspace beneath the B. Totally agree. I'm not so sure t...
