From my understanding, you stay with FF until you report field in sight at which time they will turn you loose and tell you 'freq change approve, upon miss contacts us back' in so many words.

All the CAT Raings 1 - 11 are VFR so I would hope you are following the roads, mountains, and shorelines while doing them.

Beings the controller had already given the clearance to descend, why must the pilot report the moment he pushes the nose down? Isn't the controller already expecting the descent?

I this mentioned route hard to do? I know how to read my instruments but I haven't even started the I Ratings yet. It sounds like it would be a good one to practice and is a route that is commonly used for such things.
