Jeff's X-Plane Scenery for SoCal and Beyond

Post by Jeff N »

To make it easier for PilotEdge users to find my ZLA scenery files, this thread will be an index of all airports I've completed. I'll update this first post as I make additions. My goal is to build scenery for all major airports that haven't been covered by others and update some of those that have, both towered and non towered.

Here's the list of what I have published so far. I have several more in the works, some of which just require permission from others (as they contain elements from their past scenery projects that I've enhanced) so watch this space for more additions.

I highly recommend removing the "Global Airports" folder from your Custom Scenery directory. X=Plane 10.25 introduced the user-created "lego brick" airports that are, frankly, less than accurate or desirable (with few exceptions) and worse yet, conflict with other airports you've installed. All the airports included in the Global Airports folder are available separately at X-Plane.Org (direct link: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app ... showcat=80 ) and can be installed individually if you like.

If anyone runs into issues with my files please let me know. Also feel free to make any requests in the PE coverage area. Enjoy!

Jeff,
The barren airport that bothers me the most is the one just east of KSNA. I think it is CL55. I know you probably have a list that is a mile long that you are working on, but if you could tell me if this was one of them it would be greatly appreciated.

CL55 is now a heliport located about 10 miles NNE of KSNA (view in Google Maps).

Perhaps you are thinking of the decommissioned El Toro Marine Air Station which now appears to be an RV storage lot (view in Google Maps).

Yeah I was just trying to look up CL55 on skyvector and got nothing. Google shows a tiny helipad, as Ken noted.

No plans to build El Toro for the reason also stated by Ken - no longer in service. Makes a great venue for track days though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCT1auFNyps

My scenery production has slowed as of late due to work (and wanting to spend some free time actually flying), but in case anyone's curious I'm 90% finished with KRIR Flabob, about 80% on an updated KPSP Palm Springs and I just remembered that I've had KWHP Whiteman pretty much ready to go for a while in XP9 spec, with a 10 version on the way.

In early stages of development are KBFL Bakersfield and KCRQ Palomar, the latter of which is going to take a long time due to the custom objects needed to make it look right.

Hey Ken/Jeff,
Yes, it is CL55 that is the heliport I am looking to get populated. Thanks for the Google maps look-see. It sticks out like a sore thumb for miles away in X-Plane(great landmark to find KSNA)!!
El Toro is decommissioned so I understand where you are coming from on that one. But, If you list ever gets too short of airports(heliports) to do, well....winky, wink, tiddly winks!! LOL!

Palm Springs, Whiteman just about ready to go...you are reading my mind!!

LOL you found my Fisher Price "My 1st Baggage Truck"! Been looking all over for that.

That was a (hilarious) artifact from the old MSFS KSNA scenery package I borrowed the terminal objects from and I somehow missed it in the first version of my file. The updated version unfortunately does not include any toy trucks. The link in the OP has the latest file (which includes a few other tweaks).
