10.40 Beta 10 - Performance Issues

Post by ChrisS »

Hi folks,

I'm having some significant performance issues with PE and X-Plane 10.40b10

As soon as I connect to the network, my frames drop from 40 to 0.3 or so. On occasion, it'll seem to run fine for a few minutes before the performance drop kicks in, but most of the time it's right off the bat.

I still have a stable 10.3x install on my drive, so it's not a show stopper for me. Just a heads up that if you're planning on trying out the beta, keep a stable version around.

Anyone have a workaround for this, or similar experiences?

The VRAM usage is reported in the rendering options in xplane. Is the number noticeably different between 10.40b10 and the stable version?

Chris, I also had this issue. I did a little troubleshooting and found if you remove the new CSL's things seem to get better and I did not see the issue reoccur with the new CSL's removed. No on the logic side of it, I am not sure why the CSL's would make any difference what so ever since if they work in 10.36 not sure why they would be an issue in 10.40 unless if they broke something and they are not loading and unloading like they are supposed to.

I honestly stopped at that point since I went back to my 10.36 version because with the 10.40 betas I am seeing about 10 to 15 FPS drop with my system with lower rendering settings in 10.40. I did file a bug report with X-Plane and told them I had 10.36 and 10.40 on the same machines so they can AB if they want but have not heard anything for the last 30 days. None of the beta's have seemed to make this better either.

Thanks! I did try this on both my installs and didn't see any real improvement. I'll post back if I figure out what the issue is.

Okay may have just gotten lucky. Honestly did not spend a great deal of time beyond that due to the frame rate drop I am seeing in 10.40 anyway.

So spent a little time on this today. I can confirm that the CSL trick does not fix it so we are seeing the same thing. I had given 10.40 one last shot when I tried that before and while it seemed to fix at that time, I still whent back to 10.36 after that one test. In 10.40 for whatever reason I can not get my GTX970 card to do more than 26 FPS. So in hind site not enough of a test to declare that as a potential fix.

I run 10.36 and started having the same issue today. Frames sitting at 30+, connect to PE and frames drop to 0.3, disconnect PE and frames back to 30+. No change in VRAM usage when connecting to PE. The only change to my setup during the last week that I can think of are the Windows 10 updates.

EDIT: Removed the PE plugin and then re-installed it together with the CSLs and issue disappeared.

I recently installed the CSL's for the 732 and noticed the drop in fps from 30+ to 0.5 give or take (10.36). Removing the 732 CSL's didn't help. I will try reinstalling the PE plug-in tonight it I have time.

I've been running the HD CSLs without issue on 10.36 with NVIDIA driver 355.60. I've haven't seen the frame drop at all, but be advised that I have a GT640 (Kepler series chip) and not one of the newer ones

I removed the FlyJSim CSL's and I'm not having any trouble with low frames now.
