8.333Khz spacing on the Garmin 530

Post by Keith Smith »

Anyone who uses the stock 530 might have noticed that if you use the buttom left knob of the Garmin panel to tune the radio, the com radio moves in 8.33Khz increments (0.005 for two clicks, then .010 on the next click). This was implemented for compatibility with Europe which uses 8.33Khz freq spacing. The US uses 25Khz freq spacing (0.025 change on each click of the tuner). It is, of course, possible to tune the Garmin to any US-assigned freq, but it takes a while to get there.

The next build of the PE plugin overrides the tuning command, checks to see if the com radio is tuned, and if so, it calls the 25KHz increment/decrement command.

TL;DR: as of the next release of the PE plugin, tuning the COM1 radio with the Garmin 530 will be a bit easier.
