Increase Other Aircraft Visability in FSX & FS2004, P3D

*** Increase AI Traffic Visability ***

Here is a easy tip for increasing Dawn/Dusk/Night visibility in FSX or FS2004 aircraft.

I have found that most of the strobe lights in FSX aircraft are not always what I'd expect to see.

It's up to you whether you try this or not, but I'll show you how you can change the strobe lights to high intensity, which makes them look a bit more realistic, in my book anyway. Of course how they are seen by you all depends
on your hardware equipment (monitor type and size, and video card)

Ok, first go to your FSX ..\SimObjects\Airplanes\beech_baron_58\ folder, and open up the file named “ Aircraft.cfg “ in windows notpad

Do a search for the lights section listed below

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, -6.81, -19.30, 1.17, fx_navred ,
light.1 = 3, -6.82, 19.29, 1.17, fx_navgre ,
light.2 = 3, -25.33, 0.01, 1.08, fx_navwhi ,
light.3 = 2, -6.48, -19.04, 1.17, fx_strobe ,
light.4 = 2, -6.48, 19.04, 1.17, fx_strobe ,
light.5 = 1, -24.20, 0.00, 6.44, fx_beacon ,
light.6 = 2, -7.52, 0.01, -1.28, fx_strobe ,
light.7 = 4, -8.30, 0.00, 2.70, fx_vclight,

You will see three lines that end in fx_stobe ,
add a “h” at the end of strobe just like below

[LIGHTS]
//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing
light.0 = 3, -6.81, -19.30, 1.17, fx_navred ,
light.1 = 3, -6.82, 19.29, 1.17, fx_navgre ,
light.2 = 3, -25.33, 0.01, 1.08, fx_navwhi ,
light.3 = 2, -6.48, -19.04, 1.17, fx_strobeh ,
light.4 = 2, -6.48, 19.04, 1.17, fx_strobeh ,
light.5 = 1, -24.20, 0.00, 6.44, fx_beacon ,
light.6 = 2, -7.52, 0.01, -1.28, fx_strobeh ,
light.7 = 4, -8.30, 0.00, 2.70, fx_vclight,

That's it, now save the file, next time your on PilotEdge at say, dusk, all the BE58's will now be more easily seen. You can do this for other stock aircraft like the Cessna 172 which has weak strobes as well.

Now for my next tip :

If you are using Ultimate Traffic 2 and the model set I created, you may want to do the same thing for all the “ Aircraft.cfg “ files in the UT2 folder, now this will be a very laborious task, but there is a easier way to do this by using a program called “ notepad++.exe “.

[1] Open up notepad++
[2] On the Menu bar click on “Search”
[3] Click on “ File in files “
[4] Setup the Find in Files dialogue box as shown in picture below, (your UT2 Aircraft directory will be different to mine, make sure you get the right one).
[5] Click on “ Find All “ first to make sure your in the correct directory, it will list the occurrences in a box below, but without changing anything.
[6] If you are happy with this, click on “ Replace in files “.
[7] Open one of the “ Aircraft.cfg “ files in the UT2 Aircraft folder to make sure the changes have been done correctly.

That's it, you are now good to go, and will see all UT2 Aircraft with High Intensity Stobes.

One extra thing I might add here for those who may not know, while flying online with Pilotedge, using their client, if another pilot switches on their lights you will see it happen, if they switch on the strobe and landing lights before entering the runway you will see it, if they forget to switch their lights on, you will not see them, this also goes for landing gear as well.

Cya !!
