Ok I did that, and it seemed the installer was able to find it this time, but when i went to specify the path to install it, it gave me an error.

It's trying to create or modify the dll.xml file in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX. Can you check if the folder exists? It should be trying to modify or install the dll.xml file in that folder.

I have just uninstalled FSX SE, removed all the registry keys and am reinstalling now to see what they're doing differently.

If they're using a new %APPDATA% path, you're going to need to create a %APPDATA%\Microsoft\FSX folder, then run the PE installer, then take the dll.xml that it creates and apply those changes to the FSX SE dll.xml (if you want the pop up transponder, and for it to kill the AI traffic).

There is also some evidence that the new FSX SE has two modes of installation, co-located versus FSX SE standalone. I can only test the standalone case here, am doing it right now.

There is an %appdata%>>Roaming>Microsoft>FSX-SE

this also one found in %appdata%> local > .....

Not sure if that is different than only FSX.

yes, it's completely different :) You could rename that to 'FSX', run the PE installer, then rename it back to FSX-SE if you like.

Success! Hallelujah! Installed perfectly.

Now still getting a SimConnect error when trying to login. I installed the SP1 pack, and removed the dll in lib>managed.
