Error running the client

Post by TexFly »

Hello,

...getting frustrated! I have been trying to install the PE client with the multiple computer configuration.

When I run it from the secondary computer I get: "C:\program...\pilotedge_fsx.exe this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling may fix the problem".

Tried on two different computers. They both have simconnect and FSUIPC working properly because other software I have run correctly.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Alex,

We haven't tested this particular version of the client in a remote configuration yet. We had tested the alpha release (prior to having our own installer) with no problems, but we haven't tested with this installer.

I'll give this a try during the week and let you know.

All of this aside, I strongly recommend running the client on the same machine as FSX. There are very few benefits to running it remotely, and in fact, since we update the model positions EVERY FRAME in FSX, it's not recommended that this be run over the network (along with the hassles of configuring SimConnect to run in a distributed fashion).

Understanding that we update the models on a per frame basis (rather than at a fixed rate), are you sure you want to run remotely? The client is relatively light weight, it takes very little memory or CPU, and in a multi-core system, isn't going to make a dent on your frame rate. The CPU is going to do a lot more work drawing the multiplayer aircraft than it is running the PE client.

Hi Keith,

Thanks for the reply. I finally decided to install it on the same computer and during my first landing the client crashed  . That's why I wanted to install it on a separate PC. I read a few tips and I'm going to try executing the client as Admin.

If you have other suggestions please let me know.

...well after restoring the registry it now works. I was able to complete my first flight!!!

Please let me know when the multiple-computer configuration will be available.

Thanks.

I know you resolved this, but I'm curious, when you say it was crashing when you ran the client, do you mean it literally wouldn't start up, or simply that it crashed when you attempted to connect to the network?

at the end of the connection process (I was seeing the log going on the client). Basically it never completed the login.

Weird...

Alex,

I'm pretty sure this is related to the primary issue that we're seeing with FSX right now, related to the mapping of certain aircraft. For now, set your vis range very low until we have it resolved.

Ok, the primary issue has been resolved (to the best of my knowledge). I'll look into your FSUPIC offset question as soon as I can. We changed some of them (to allow the client to coexist with stock SB4 installations, so users could swap between multiple networks with ease), but I don't think THOSE ones changed off the top of my head.

Let me know every OFFSET that you're checking. If you're checking for the 'SB is connected' offset before changing any other offsets, THAT will fail, since this is NOT SB4. I am using some previously unused address space to indicate that PE is connected, along with one or two others that needed to be changed.

As I said, let me know ALL the offsets you're checking and we'll take it from there. Or, I can tell you what changed.
