FS economy - new PE client and no comms

Post by Talan2000 »

hi all

I violated a cardinal rule of computing and upgraded multiple things at once now. I have problems.

Xp 10.32 from 10.31
PE plugin to latest win client 1.3?

So anyway on my first FS economy trip from l52 to KSba I rented a "VFR" 172.
I logged into PE and departed broadcasting on Unicom. Tried to contact sba approach and got and heard nothing.
Logged off. Landed KSba

Return trip I connected to PE first and contacted clearance dev. No radio contact again. Worked my way through to tower.
Finally tower. Called back so I thought great.

So I redialed clr del and broadcast. Tower told me I was still on ter drew despite both radios being now set to clr dev???

Logged off PE. Logged on. Never got any comms again.

My initial impression is that the FS economy plugin is conflicting with the new PE plugin.
Anybody have any ideas? Of note too - I had no nav radio and the gps was blank A function of fse forcing the 172 to be a pretty lame "VFR" only aircraft. Could that be suppressing the comm radios too? Surely they don't kill comm1/2 for a VFR flight ???

I'll try again later and using PE only then PE + fse. And then in an ifr aircraft to see if I can figure it out.

Any experiences/tips appreciated though

Todd,

It's covered by this thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=906

Short version: VFR-only on the equipment translates to failed NAV radios in X-Plane. Since NAV/COM radio failures are tied together in xplane, that translates to failed comm radios, too.

If you review your equipment failures in X-Plane while flying that VFR-only aircraft, you'll see that's what it's doing. See the thread for more info.

I'm moving this to the FSE forum, btw. Please use that for FSE-related discussion.

Keith

Thanks so much for the quick response. This stuff would otherwise drive me crazy.

I'm on mobile and will check out your link for the full story.

Sorry I didn't realize there was an fse sub forum. I'll be sure to check that out as well

No problem. I've updated the forum configuration so that FSE shows up on the main list.

I'm in communication with Austin (the author of X-Plane) and he agrees that nav and com failures should be separated out. He's going to look into it.

I did also read that the new fse client has a change that instead of disabling the entire gps it instead disables the autopilot. Not sure when they are updating the server to the new client though.

Austin made the change. It's coming. There will be a new PE build to support the new com failure dataref once the new XPlane build is done.

So now we'll be able to fail a nav radio without it hurting comms and vice versa.

Awesome. I'll never fly a "VFR" plane again without that fix. Truth be told I'll probably never fly VFR only ac even with the fix. Becoming a gps cripple :)

Well there you go, that's something to aim towards. There's few things more engaging and satisfying in the sim than a VFR XC flight with sparse nav equipment.
