It really was a bizarre event It was only her second flight on the network, and she was very new to ATC communications. So, I'm guessing she felt a little strange declaring the mayday.
The guys after that were fun with the Cirrus, too. It was their first flight as well. The owner of the flight school has been getting comfortable on PE and is now getting his instructors trained on it. This was the 2nd instructor to be trained on it that afternoon and the owner wanted to have some fun so we issued the go-around on a 1/4 mile final.
