I-07 question
I-07 question
I was flying I-07 as per I-07 lesson material VOR/DME - B Approach
I was approaching SXC from the NE. Should I make a sharp right turn to join SXC R-352 and then fly the approach?
I made a mistake, I turned South instead on SXC R-172 and I was going to make a left turn back to SXC and fly the approach from there.
Please comment. Cheers, AJ

Here is the route I ended up flying for my I-7: http://peaware.pilotedge.net/flight.cfm?id=27522
As you can see, I was vectored so the turn to the north crossing SXC wasn't so sharp.

Re: I-07 question
Aj,
I just finished that one. Although the filed route is a very sharp turn on paper, I believe I read somewhere that ATC will vector you more south of SXC and then send you direct. That way the turn to R352 is less severe. It is in the rating documents/videos somewhere.

What is that extra squiggle in between SXC and the vector?

Re: I-07 question
After a second thought , I am almost sure I just should make a right turn, it would not have been THAT sharp anyway...
Take a look how I messed up the downwind entry to rwy 22... I corrected it but look at the path below

I will fly it again. Thank you.

Had to do a 360 to avoid some of the VFR traffic flying all over Catalina.Vincent Meier wrote:Reece,Pieces wrote:Here is the route I ended up flying for my I-7: http://peaware.pilotedge.net/flight.cfm?id=27522

Here is mine...not much better. ATC amended my flight plan to SXC direct

Thank you guys, feeling a bit better now but still have to fly it again. Cheers, AJ

Re: I-07 question
Aircraft arriving on V21 will most likely be given a short vector abeam SXC or slightly south of it to facilitate the intercept angle on the approach.

Re: I-07 question
Julio nailed it. While not technically required, we encourage the following via the 'instructor-only' notes on the rating:
It's an imperfect process, though, and there will be times when controllers will either not be aware of this, or won't remember to do it. This is a good discussion, though. The awkward turn you have to make from V21 is the reason why this note existsFeel free to pull them off the airway to get them east or west of SXC then send them direct SXC for the approach. This should be done because it's awkward to fly the full approach if you arrive at SXC from the north, since they have to reverse course to join the SXC radial outbound to the north...
