Have passed V3. Some questions

Post by Rkon »

I passed V3 5 min ago. What can I say: it wasn't easy, taking into account that English isn't my native language. Nevertheless I have found some mistakes (my mistakes) and want to know about it.
1. I didn't reset squake to 1200 after exit LA Bravo Mini-Route, LA_TWR didn't say me do that (as far as I can remember).
2. I didn't say a word about weather info to TOA_TWR with landing request. Actually, the weather was the same as for KSNA. So I was aware about wind, pressure and clouds.
How much do such mistakes cost in real world?
3. Not mistake but... My tailnumber is RA-0013G. I'm from Russia, so I fly aircraft that is registered in Russia, isn't it. SNA_CLNC told me that I should change "RA-" to "N-". If there are some restrictions about choosing tailnumbers please let me know.

And, of course, great thanks for all controllers.

Oh! Russia! :D Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk in Russian.
And congrats with V3!

p. s.
Had the same issue with tail number at first, changed to 'N-xxxx'.

There is no problem with using a Russian registered aircraft, RA-0031G is fine to use on the network. I'll talk to the controller involved to let him know.

If you want to use a US registered aircraft registration use N##### as opposed to N-#####. "-" aren't used in the US for callsigns.

I've been enjoying the new call signs on the network and frankly, the fact that you're not native English speaker has me stepping up my game to match folks like you. Glad to have to you on PE!

I am, but sometimes I get lazy on the radios--not speaking clearly, using too much shorthand, slurring the callsign. So what I meant was since everyone else is trying hard, it stands out that I'm not. :)

Ah, I see. I like the slurring and laziness, makes it more "realistic" per say :D

Thanks, Peter. So I'm using "RA" prefix.

I missed that one, sorry. You shouldn't squawk VFR until told to. Normally this should be done by HHR tower, but in some cases it's easier to keep you on the squawk till TOA.

To answer question 2.
I didn't say a word about weather info to TOA_TWR with landing request. Actually, the weather was the same as for KSNA. So I was aware about wind, pressure and clouds.

Doesn't cost a thing, the controller should ask you if you have it if you don't tell us that you have it. There is no harm if the controller has to ask if you have it.
