CAT 11 - just lost "everything"....

Postby Turner » Sat May 13, 2017 5:05 pm

So, I just tried XP11 (purchased today) with the Carenado Centurion. Not good.

First issue was complete failure of autopilot - just wanted to cruise along, but it insisted on throwing me into steeeeeep turns and ridiculous climbs.

I'm thinking it's not exactly compatible with XP11. (I didn't have REP going.)

Then - I notice the plane wants to keep climbing, so I check my trim - it's all the way back. I use my rocker switch to get it back in place, but there's a tendency to keep sneaking back into a climb, and I notice that now my trim control isn't working.

Ok, so fully manual then. Fine.

At which point I notice it's getting harder to hear the controller... and harder. But, ok, plodding along...

Somewhere around the SAN mode C veil, I notice it's been a bit too quiet, so I call ATC. Nothing.

Switch to SoCal approach in the SAN area, call in... nothing.

That was it for that flight. I was really looking forward to that gin & tonic.

P3D for the finish, I suppose.

Any suggestions?

Carenado Statement on their Facebook page 17APR2017:

Official Carenado Statement about the recently released X-Plane 11

Many people have been asking about the compatibility between our X-Plane 10 (XP10) fleet and the new X-Plane 11 (XP11).

After many weeks of research, we have realized that the new X-Plane platform has many changes compared to the old one, the new visual engine is very powerful and it was developed using cutting edge technology. Therefore, in order to take advantage of this new platform we will create native aircraft for X-Plane 11, meaning we will add all the necessary elements to our aircraft to reach a new level of products.

Because of that, all the following aircraft released in the past 6 months will be freely updated to XP11, assuring the investments done by our customers since the new XP11 was announced:

• PA34 Seneca V
• 500S Shrike Aero commander

From now on, and until the end of 2017 we will provide dual version products (XP10 and XP11) with any new release, as we did it with the Phenom 100.

All the rest of our fleet will be redone for X-Plane 11 and will be sold as a new product.

Please note: while our currently XP10 fleet will work in X-Plane 11, they do not take full advantage of X-plane 11-specific features and systems.

Kyle Sanders

Thanks Kyle. I was afraid of that.

Would the aircraft cause the radios to drop out?

Anyway, looks like it's back to 10 for now.

cheers

The loss of comms is beyond me... but, I always suggest not ending the flight because of a loss of comms. It is a great opportunity to practice your Lost Communication procedure skills.

Morning,

Thanks again...

Wouldn't that void my CAT 11? Not so sure it's a great idea to fly into KSAN sans radio... :)

[edit] By the way, it would serve their customers (and potential customers) better if Carenado put that message on their website. I looked around there for a bit, plus emailed them about compatibility before purchasing XP11, but got no response.

[Double edit]: The statement above seems to be identical to that of Alabeo... I don't think the C210 is an Alabeo product.

Alabeo and Carenado are the same company. If your comms are dying in midflight then I'd suggest turning on the data input&output screen fields for battery voltage and the generator output. Find out if your battery is discharging during flight. If so, that would explain why your comms are dying.

Thanks Keith, I'll take a look at that.

Just checking in again,

Keeping the engine revved in XP11 seemed to help.

However...

Tried the Centurion again tonight, everything calibrated, but it insisted on turning me right, hard, and after turning on AP, insisted that I wanted a stall-quality climb, even after disconnecting autopilot and trying to reset my trim.

Unfortunately, had to end my 2nd flight today mid-stream. (First time, I lost the ability to click on half the buttons, including radios)

I hope Carenado will update this, but I didn't have much luck with their DA40.

Really sucks because I haven't flown it all that much.

Any recommendations for solid, XP-11 friendly alternative?
