pilots requested for LGB demo, Thu-Sat

Post by Keith Smith »

Pilots thought to be flying at some point during the Thu-Sat schedule (will be edited as I receive responses either here, through PM, or email)
Brian R
Tom-Jim S (Fri-Sat)
Adam C (Fri-Sat mornings)
Jim T
Ben A (Thu and Sat)

The AOPA Summit is Thu-Sat. PilotEdge will be demonstrated to the convention's attendees from approx 8am-4pm PST on Thu-Sat. At least, those are the hours listed on the convention schedule, so I assume those will be the hours the convention hall itself is open.

If you are comfortable flying on the network and interacting with ATC, you are invited to do as much flying during the above window as you can possibly stand, in and around the LGB area.

The demo we'll be running at the Summit will consist of an IFR flight out of LGB for vectors to the ILS RWY 30 back into Long Beach in a BE58 Baron, with a full stop landing. VFR pilots will have the option of doing a lap or two around the pattern.

To that end, the type of traffic that would be most helpful at the convention would be precisely the operations listed above. That will maximize the likelihood of being on the same set of freqs as us at the convention. The goal of having other live aircraft is to highlight that this isn't a solitary world...other aircraft are there to be seen, heard, and that they affect our own flights.

Please don't do anything wacky, and don't be a tool on the radio. Not to be blunt...but this is an important demo, and is being presented as a serious training tool. :)

Any questions at all....seriously, anything....feel free to ask.

Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to help out...it will not be forgotten.

Do all of us have to fly a Baron also? Or can we fly whatever we want so long as it is at that airport?

Anything you like that. LGB can and does accommodate a wide variety of aircraft. Since the flights should remain relatively local to add the most value, a slower moving plane might be appropriate, but really, any traffic in or out of LGB is appreciated. Just know that if you stray more than about 40nm from the area, you're not likely to have much impact on the radio for aircraft at LGB.

One thing is for sure, we should know all the KLGB procedures by heart after this weekend. :)

We need pilots! If anyone's around and comfortable/technically able to fly, *please* do. The demo is going really really well, we just need more people on freq.
