So close... after all that...

Post by FourMikeRomeo »

Flew my trusty Panthera up from KBUR to KLAS on the I-5 rating.

Sim crashed turning base for 19R.

Lesson learned: test your scenery before flying a long slow I-rating.

As much as that sucks, I think that is the first time I've heard slow and Panthera in the same post.

Well, compared to all the previous rating flights... this was actually the first time I'd sat in a sim-plane for an hour plus flight. Also it felt slow because I was on a timeline (unexpectedly) and had to finish the sim-flight before collecting my girlfriend from her real flight at the airport.

Besides, when you're sitting on the magenta line at 11000 looking out at hundreds of square miles of brown desert trying to see if I can get fuel use down another 0.1 gph, 200 knots just doesn't feel all that fast. Someday I'll do KBUR-KLAS in a C172 just for the lulz. Maybe I'll get my taxes done before I hit DAG.

It probably feels slow in retrospect, too, because I fixed the scenery problem (a corrupted tile 2 degrees of latitude away) and tested it by repeating the flight offline in a CL30. That went faster.
