VFR rules and Arrival/Approach Procedures

Post by CaptainMD »

Hello PE,

When flying VFR, can a pilot still fly the fixes according to the published arrival and approach procedures or can the VFR pilot only expect to receive make left downwind or right base entry only instructions? Put another way, can a VFR pilot request published procedures when he is NOT on an IFR plan.

Thanks!

Yes you may request any IFR procedure for practice. You are required to maintain VFR at all times so it is the pilot's responsibility to deviate or even abandon the procedure to guarantee VMC conditions and VFR cloud clearances.
