On IFR—When to change altimeter setting

You’re flying IFR into an uncontrolled airport. Enroute ATC asks that you report when you have the local weather and requests what approach you’d like. Still 50 miles from the IAF you pick up the ASOS and decide on the ABC approach and note that the local altimeter is .4-.5 inches below (-400-500 feet) the enroute setting you’ve been given, a not insignificant amount given terrain surrounding the airport. You are then cleared for the approach and told to report when established inbound. At what point do you change your altimeter setting?

1) When cleared for the approach
2) Upon crossing the IAF
3) when established

4)When picking up the ASOS/AWOS.

A .4 or .5 change is pretty large and would be an indicator of other potential issues (like flying into a Hurricane ;) ).
