X Plane's GNS 530 Minimums Capability

Post by CaptainMD »

Hi All,

I'm planning on training in some low ceilings with X Planes stock Baron 58 and I wanted to double check with the group here. I can't really find an answer with the X Plane resources.

Regarding X Plane's stock GNS530 used in the stock Baron 58. Does anyone know what its approach minimums capability are? I don't think the stock GNS530 is WAAS capable. Not that I could find for sure.

I'm assuming that the stock Baron with the GNS530 can only shoot LNAV MDA approaches since it doesn't have a Vertical Baro.

How about shooting the LNAV / VNAV minimums? Since this Baron's HSI displays a glide slope indicator, does this feature qualify the Baron for this approach?

There is downloadable Baron 58 equipped with two G1000s that someone made in X Plane. I'm assuming this setup can handle all of the approach minimum choices.

Thank for the help!
Massimo

Massimo,

IRL, the only approved methods of vertical navigation on an approach are via WAAS or baro-VNAV. It is highly unlikely the Baron would have baro-VNAV, so if the GNS530 is not WAAS capable then you would be limited to LNAV only minimums.

The Garmin in X-Plane is WAAS enabled. As a result, you can fly to LPV minima.

Thanks All!

Any thoughts on the G1000? I haven't gotten into this one yet.
