[Feb 12] IFR Departures Demystified

Tonight's the night we tackle this whole IFR caper head-on, PE Workshop style! Watch as we take 10 hours of hardcore content and fail to stuff it into a 2 hour format! We kid, we kid...as you can see we learned from the VFR flight planning workshops and have already sliced this topic into chunks.

Come to the DTP TS3 server (ts3.digitalthemepark.com) a few minutes before 7pm PST to join in! EVERYONE is welcome, you don't even have to be a PE subscriber, and almost none of the material is PE-specific. This is all juicy, real-world stuff.

Was very happy with how this one panned out. During the Q&A, it was determined that we'd change the format slightly and simply stick to a time boxed format to allow participants to know exactly when we'll be finishing up each evening. The scope of the workshop won't be adjusted. Instead, we'll move through the material at a consistent pace and then simply resume the following week.

The 'topic' of each workshop, then, will become a little bit more general as we won't have a specific goal to cover a fixed amount of material. I will simply work through the IFR material, and however long it takes is how long it takes.

Thanks to everyone that attended the marathon last night and for the excellent feedback during Q&A. Here are the other changes that will take place:
1) we'll ensure there is someone to greet new guests in the lobby, and to provide the screen sharing link for late comers without me having to address them directly. I don't have a problem with it, but it's disruptive to the flow and not fair on the participants that were on time.

2) I'll allow for relevant questions during the presentation, as I've been doing to date. This results in a shorter Q&A at the end, which allow for more of a hangar flying session at the end. There was lots of interest from the attendees in simply being able to speak to each other as this is the only venue they have for interacting with each other outside of the forums.

Thanks to Christian for recording last night's workshop. I'll have it posted as soon as I can.

BINGO! - That's what I was thinking too. Last night's training on IFR has been the most enjoyable I have experienced so far. Looking forward to the next one! :)

It was like a gray sheet of silhouettes transformed into technicolor brilliance as I followed the course of this workshop! Elements I had no knowledge of regarding SID charts and general IFR approach procedures were introduced in an incredibly comprehensive way which made it easy to follow through each segment of the presentation. This was by far the most rewarding experience of all your workshops and now I'm eager to delve further into the intricacies of Departures Demystified!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your real-world wisdom with all of us and for giving us a tool that will serve for the rest of our lives!

Looking forward to the next one!
Victoria

Question: Was the Q&A recorded too, or is this just a benefit for those that can make it to the live event?

Can't wait to see this one...

You can assume that every workshop is recorded and that it will be posted asap after each event. If it wasn't recorded for any reason, we will post a note to explain why. Mark wasn't at this presentation, but Christian stepped in and was able to capture it. He had internet issues in the days that followed and wasn't able to upload it, but he was able to upload it as of this morning, and I am now publishing it to YT as we speak. It should be available in about 75 minutes from now.

I will do my level best to get a local recording solution working before the next one, as well as multiple monitors so I'm not sharing the TS3 window, too.

The Q&A was recorded but was ultimately edited out at my request as the majority of the on-topic questions were asked during the presentation and also because the core material was already so long.

The recording is now available as part of the workshop page. Thanks to Christian for taking care of the recording and editing on this one!
