Steve, you're probably right. This doesn't bode well for PE. 3 years before the launch on Oct 1, 2011, I said, "wouldn't it be a great idea to have this network...." :)

I say half of us fly Z to A and the other half fly A to Z and we meet in the middle (M) and have a beer. (Kidding)

This is an awesome idea! I'm totally up for this challenge.

Hey, you have an idea there. What if we used this as a backbone for "focus flights"? So the PE home page would have focus fields to help everyone with traffic concentration for pattern work, but "focus flights" would be one of the alphabet routes that would cross and area of a focus field. That way, you could "touch and go" at the focus field you're passing to increase the field traffic and it would also help prevent a "conga line" of airplanes moving across the scope.

Let's take the first one as an example:

Apple Valley to Bakersfield-Meadows would (likely) require a trip past Palmdale so that could be a focus field (KPMD) with a focus route (IFR-AB).

Also, think of the workshop or rating potentials. You could plan that A-B route with many different options, like forcing a situation call to Joshua Approach for MOA advisories. Fuel and oxygen planning for flying near mountains. Reading the low enroute chart to really understand the numbers on the line and how they would really restrict you in that circumstance. The V197 route from Palmdale requires 10,000 so that means the conversation about oxygen use, emergency field planning, ELT beacon use/testing, takeoff/landing loads. How to use IFR planning for a VFR flight through rough territory.

I mean, wow. This crazy route plan could be the backbone of a whole book on modern flight planning and flying in general.
