TFRs in Socal in March

Post by Daddy O »

There is a planned TFR (total flight restriction) for one or more areas in Socal Mar 18th & 19th when President Obama visits the Lax area.

Although this is something only happening in the real world, I was curious if it might be observed in PilotEdge, since flying into a TFR will absolutely, positively get your certificate suspended for a minimum of 90 days or more (usually more.) In some TFRs you may even be intercepted by fighters and escorted directly to Gitmo for a digital exam. This one of the latter TFRs.

There is actually a small TFR around Disneyland, 3nm circumfrance and up to 3000 feet. Marked on most maps.

Any of you controllers ever simulated a TFR on VatSim?

I haven't yet worked out what the policy will be regarding TFR's. We will attempt to support runway closures, navaid outages, other NOTAMs of that nature, but TFR's are less certain. The documentation surrounding them is quite complex, they pop-up without much notice at times, and enforcing them will be tricky.

It's not out of the question do it, it definitely requires more thought. Are facility engineering crew is already working very hard on a host of other infrastructure items, and TFR's are way down on the list.

It will come up again when we're ready to tackle a NOTAM system, I suspect.
