Taxi Question

Post by jiva602 »

Suppose I have just landed my 182, exited the runway, and am stopped fully past the hold short line, I call tower, they send me to ground who gives me taxi instructions to GA parking which include: ...cross runway "xx"...

As I taxi to parking, when I get to the runway I need to cross, I believe I need to full-stop and look for traffic but...

1)Do I need to wait for tower to clear me to cross even after "full instructions" were given?
2)Do I need to call them when I get to that point(holding line) of my taxi route?
3)or Will they know I am waiting there to cross and I just need to be patient?

This happened to me last weekend during what seemed to me to be a busy time on the network. For some reason I can't remember now where I was, I think maybe KVCV.

Anyway, I didn't ask at the time and simply stopped, made absolutely sure there was no traffic, crossed over and continued to parking.

Thanks,

Jiva

1) always a good idea to take a look but you don't need to stop to do that.

2) that "hold short" line doesn't exsist for you anymore, as you were already told "...cross runway ##...." and no- don't call them unless you were told "advise crossing runway...." or something like that. But- that is likely never to happen. They are watching your crossing closely, as many instructions to other aircraft depend on your movement across that runway.

3) answered with #2 I think.

I hope this answers your questions. If not, please clarify.

In low-visibility situations, Ground/Tower may ask you to report when you have crossed the runway, but unless asked, you do not need to do that. Ground vehicles at airports in real life usually need to do this after all runway crossings, but airplanes do not.
