X-Plane SoCal Uncontrolled Fields Overhaul (Scenery Project)

Post by Miniwebbs »

Hello fellow X-plane pilot's recently over the past few months I have been using WED to create scenery (I am a new scenery creator) and overhauling all of Socal's uncontrolled airports for X-plane. I have been using a program to assist me called WEDbing that allows me to align the airport correctly so the airport would be ortho friendly and I am accurately placing buildings where they are in real life. The reason I have been doing this is because I am an avid VFR flyer, and there is nothing that breaks my heart more landing at a flat 2D airport with no life at all in X-plane. I have been inspired by ORBX's Socal as they completely overhaul all uncontrolled airports in socal giving them accurate buildings and scenery that is at the airport in real life. This is something that I have really been missing in X-Plane so I had decided to give my self the project of completely redoing all (well I think i've got all of them noted) uncontrolled airports within the socal area. This would give the fields more life and increase the immersion which I love :D

All scenery is made with the X-Plane libraries which allows the scenery to be uplaoded to the x-plane gateway which will allow the scenery to be included in a future update of x-plane. The scenery will then be included into everyone's version of x-plane once they have updated the sim. This is something I love because scenery developers can make accurate scenery that will become default scenery for x-plane in the future!

But the reason I have posted this onto the pilotedge forums is to let you know which feild I have completed/going to complete and if there are any fields that I am missing out. feel free to request a field that you would like to be done but keep in mind it has to be in the Socal area and not have any default scenery.

*I am only doing some private strips but feel free to request one :D

Wow! Bug project to take on! Great job and thank you!

There are a few ZLA controlled fields that aren't in the gateways either, such as LGB. Are you considering doing those as well?

Bless you. Future releases of XP will benefit very much from this.

I, too, have been slowly trying to take on some PE area fields, especially in the WUS. Since you like the Idaho backcountry you may like:

- Thomspon Falls: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/fi ... b=comments
- Bonners Ferry: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/fi ... b=comments

These have libraries that one needs to download. I have uploaded others to the Gateway, however, which are under review.

Thanks for the field recommendations BFG I'll definitely try them out when my laptop is back from maintenance :) . I really enjoy flying around the backcountry in x-plane, there is just something that fascinates me about bush flying. It will be awesome when I will start to overhaul the Idaho backcountry and the strips will be so much better with accurately placed buildings and and tree placements and windsocks.

By the way I'm a big fan of your videos it would be awesome to see some bush flying action with your cockpit :D

Miniwebbs,

Thanks so much for the time you're putting into building these airports. Having 3-D buildings at these smaller "left out" fields is really nice. I noticed a few of them on your list are still not approved for download yet - such as L80 and CL46. The airports that I have downloaded I'm getting a startup error regarding the scenery. The log.txt file says unable to locate object Lib/G10/EU/suburban/gshed1_3x2.obj Apparently the G10 library is not complete in my version of x-plane, even though I have the latest update of XP10. Not sure if anyone else is getting this same error. Also, I'm not sure if a complete G10 object library is available for download anywhere . . . I can't seem to find one on the org like all the other libraries.

One more airport to suggest to you. KCNO - Chino - it's not in the org and the only one in the Gateway is really bad with only a couple of buildings. That would be a really nice addition to SoCal if you're so inclined. Thanks again Miniwebbs!

A final thought . . . some may find it easier to find this thread if were moved to the X-Plane forum.

Yes some of the sceneries have a problem but it is an easy fix. I am getting my laptop back from repairs tomorrow and I will patch the airports on my list that are not approved by laminar yet. Once I have patched the airports you should check L80 out its a cool little strip :)
