I-1 Rating Help

Post by onevim »

Hello Noble Pilotedgers,

I just completed all of the CAT ratings! Woohoo! I am now starting to look at those I ratings. I am struggling to understand how to do the I-1 rating, unfortunately. I checked out Keith's video and a few other videos on Youtube, but am still a bit lost. Can I recruit someone's help to understand how to do it? I just want to go through it on a chart and see where all the way points are, how to fly to them and what to expect from ATC. Thanks in advance!

Well,
Congrats on passing the CAT ratings!

I think it best if you go through the IFR workshops first.
Your requests for info seem so basic... but the reality is that the information has already been explained in the I-1 rating page and video.
It seems you are missing some of the basic understandings of IFR in general... that's where the workshops come in.
Now... there are MANY videos and each at a good length. But I tell you that every min is worth it.
Start from the bottom of the page (skip the VFR ones for now maybe) and work your way up:

If there's something still eluding you after watching the workshops, let us know what it is. Alternatively, feel free to schedule some time through the Remote Coaching (http://pilotedge.net/pages/remote-coaching) service and we'll get you up to speed with a one on one session.

Note: the embedded YT videos from the workshops seem to have having an issue on the web site, they're not showing up. Here is a playlist you can use in the mean time: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... Sq7F4wi0JV

They're pretty much in order, however the Approaches part 4 was added at the end and should be watched after pat 3 (obviously).

Thanks Keith and Kyle for these awesome learning resources! I will definitely checkout the workshop videos. I actually found this excellent video by Mark Hargrove (which I'm sure you both are well aware of):

https://youtu.be/G2yHhBgF3Lo

I actually knew about this video before, but didn't watch it because it appeared to be superseded by Keith's "updated" video. Although Keith's video is excellent,I find it complimentary to Mark's video (not a replacement). Mark has a lot of good introductory material in his video that makes it very useful. It actually answers many of the questions I had above. Silly me for not having watched it before posting! Perhaps it would be good to embed his video in the I-01 rating page as well?

One thing I did not know existed was the remote coaching. That is excellent. I think this forum, combined with the remote coaching and the discord site and all the YouTube videos should be ample for me to get up and running with I ratings.

Thanks for the support! I love Pilotedge and love seeing all the new enhancements you guys have been adding over time. Keep up the great work!
