departure and arrival at KCOS

Post by deansalman »

So Colorado Springs is not on the western network yet as a tower. As I understand this when I use KCOS, I just contact Springs Approach or Departure. What is not clear is do I just take off first and then contact Springs App or use that as a normal landing or take off. I think if I read it correctly in that I would make contact once in the air.

Hi Dean.
You can contact centre on the ground or in the air if filing IFR.

If your flying VFR you'd generally contact them in the air and request flight following. Normally, the first thing they'll do is give you a transponder code so they can track you.

It's sometimes not obvious what frequency to use. The postage stamp boxes on Skyvector charts are usually appropriate but if you call in and ATC wants you on another area frequency they will tell you without a problem.

Good luck.
