Oculus Gift Tips

Post by gsuoumu »

Just got my oculus rift in last week. I purchased it mostly for iRacing and other games but can't wait to try it out on x-plane. But for those of you that have or currently use VR, what tips do you have? My major concern is about charts. It's pretty easy to use them with my triple monitor setup but I don't know how I would be able to go back and forth with charts when flying in VR. I'm sure planes with a G1000 would be helpful but I pretty much fly just the C172 right now.

I get some time off around the holiday and I'm going to need to take a day just to rearrange my gaming room to give me some better space to play around and things. But figured someone here might have some helpful hints.

For now, I only fly VR in VFR. However, if you run the Oculus home in BETA mode, there is a feature that lets you put windows up inside your view and you can place them wherever you like. There is a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xem3Pz9ib_U) from BambinoGames that shows you how. It's old but it's still relevant.

I use that in Pokerstars VR to load my virtual desktop up and pin it so that it stays up. I suppose I could do that. I don't have an iPad (#TeamAndroid) and therefore no Foreflight but what he does there could be done in X-plane with a Chrome window and the anticipated charts up. I think it can be done.

I'm excited to try it and even if I have to stick to VFR only I really do think it's going to make things so much better and more immersive. Already blown away with it in iRacing.

When i fly VR in X-Plane i use a free plug in called Avitab. It's like an EFB. The latest version also allows you to use your navigraph subscription and therefore you'll have charts while in VR. It also shows you where you are on the charts like in foreflight. It's a game changer. You should also try it out Marcus.
