The Crosswind Turn

Post by MikeN87 »

When taking off from a larger airport in a small plane, when would it be appropriate to turn crosswind. With a long runway, after reaching 500' AGL, you will still have plenty of upwind runway underneath you. Should you continue to climb and fly to the end of the runway before making the crosswind turn or make the turn when your 500" AGL?

Thx

AIM 4.3.3 (5)

If remaining in the traffic pattern, commence turn to crosswind leg beyond the departure end of the runway within 300 feet of pattern altitude.
