I've always used PE from parking to taxi to takeoff. However, as I'm prepping for my IFR checkride, I'd like to start my flight session aloft to practice different approaches without all the up-front time getting near to the feeder route or IAF.
Is it okay to join the network while already airborne and, obviously, outside of Charlie, Bravo or Delta airspace and then pick up a clearance to an airport?
Thanks,
Paul
Connecting to the PE Network while already airborne. Ok?

There's no operational difference from an ATC perspective between what you're proposing, vs taking off from a non-towered airport and calling ATC in Class E airspace with a request to practice approaches.
So, feel free to connect in Class E airspace, airborne, squawking VFR.
