A 2019 Chicago mayoral candidate is proposing reopening Meigs. Reading the article requires free registration (I have no affiliation with the author or avweb.com).
Meigs was beautiful and flyers near the U.S. Great Lakes knew of it. Its 2003 closure was notorious because the mayor of the time closed it, illegally, by having it bulldozed in the middle of the night. It was a uniquely situated artificial island on Lake Michigan, right next to downtown Chicago and popular for its immediate access to downtown.
