Hearing other frequencies?

Post by RiverFlow »

I'm a pilot new to PE. In my first log-in, I dialed in ground frequency (on both radios, just to be sure) at a Class D (KCRQ) but was hearing chatter for SoCal Approach. I made a communication check call on ground frequency - 'palomar ground cessna 123 com check', and ATC came back and said they heard me loud an clear. I don't want to be broadcasting my ground clearance to PE SoCal, but maybe that's how it works? Did I miss a step in set-up?

Thank you

It’s working properly. The radio system is very complex in order to allow you to hear only certain transmissions by pilots. Depending on the current ATC staffing, you may sometimes hear other frequencies as well as your own, but you’re only ever transmistting on one frequency. Just like the real world, PE controllers broadcast across multiple frequencies.
