More Realistic Sound?

Post by robertvo »

Hi Keith,

did you ever think about making the sound more realistic, closer to what we hear on the radio in real airplanes?
I am talking about hearing mic clicks, adding little white noise and filtering out the high and low frequencies from the sound by runing it thru an audio filter.
I know it's not your high priority and I am sure there are more important features, but I think it would be really cool to hear that "white noise sound click" at the end of each transmission.

Just an idea.

Yes, audio processing has been something we've wanted to add for a long time. The audio SDK that we're using was recently updated and now includes a facility for doing any kind of audio post-processing that we'd need.

If anyone is interested in taking this on as a small dev project, PM me. This can be built in isolation of our system and then integrated later on.

sounds good Keith.
If i wasnt so tied up with my work, i would be up for the project.
the audio processing would be on the client or server side?
c/c++ ?
Maybe one day in the future I ll look into that.

Hi there Keith!

I m seriosly looking to rejoin PE as soon as i get a little more free time from real life :P

My only complain about PE would be the lack of a realistic sound. Any news about the new sound implementation?

Best!

Is it possible to implement the "realistic distortion" feature that is usually available on squawk box? Or is this something that must be done through the audio server itself?

Although I don't mind the crystal clear audio quality, ironically, audio distortion from radio transmissions really helps me hear the controller clearly over the engine noise.

Well, I don't know if it helps me understand the controller, but the VHF distortion surely does add to the immersion in the sim. I would like its implementation given a higher priority as well.

But, lots of tasks, and not enough time I expect.

Now that the 3rd party voice library has been updated to production release, this should be possible. does anyone want to tackle it? It can be developed completely independently of the pe client and integrated after.

If there are no takers, I will do it. Just know that it is #5 on the list of projects.
